Post-Christmas Thoughts

New Life Family:
“There’s no place like home for the holidays”, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas”, and “Silent Night” are songs and old movies that are back in their cases on the shelf perhaps to be dusted-off and enjoyed again next year. The Duncan-Wright House is quiet. The fun of watching Thomas and Burke play together is a memory now. My girls and their hubbies are gone and another Christmas at the ‘dads’ house (every three years) has come and gone. It doesn’t get easier. One either accepts reality or lives in misery. I admit I do a little of both when it comes to being so far away from my kids and their families. Today, I am reminded of the scriptures that instruct us to be content with where we are and what we have. (Phil. 4:11; Timothy 6:8; Heb. 13:5) Apostle Paul probably had it rougher than we can imagine having spent the larger portion of his life as a converted Jewish Christian in a cold, dark prison cell. Yet, he gives good advice for those willing to take it. In my personal life as well as personal and church affairs, there are many things I don’t like at the present time. However, the best remedy for my present circumstances is to make lemonade out of all those lemons and patiently and confidently trust that God is going to make a way for me! My prayer today is that this body of believers will see that God is truly on our side and when we include Him in all our plans, He will order our steps and clear the path for us to be victorious—in His time and in His way. So, goodbye 2008—hello 2009. We’re ready for what the Lord has for us!

Hello Everyone…

New Life Family:
As I reflect over the past several months, I find myself praising God for His goodness and mercy. We have certainly had a tumultuous 2008 thus far, but God has never forsaken us. Our grandson, Burke, came to live with us in April. Where has the time gone? It has been seven months, and our home will never be the same! He delights us singing praise songs as he plays and entertains himself with Thomas the tank engine. With the economy doing dips and curves, we have ended an era of being constantly in the food business. Our lives have been interrupted with Dan having to be gone all week working in Oklahoma City. Is this the way we would have wanted it? NO! But again, God has given sweet peace and we make it. Our church family has changed somewhat and we have beautiful new faces among us. Our prayers for help with music are being answered. Our prayers for children and the possibility of Sunday school for them look very promising. So, what is there to complain about? We are family! We need each other and God is blessing us in His way. So, today, from the bottom of our hearts, we want to say “thank you, Lord” for our NLCCH family and for God’s blessings in each and every one of our lives. We celebrate Thanksgiving today with each of you. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving Day on Thursday with whomever God sends to be with you. Please pray for Dan, Burke and I as we travel to Oklahoma City where we will be together for Thanksgiving this year.
Love to all!
Pastor Randy, Dan & Burke
